Hi, I’m Helen. I am reading my way around the world, one book and country at a time, via translated fiction, my portal to other cultures. I live in a small town in the Scottish Highlands with my husband, children and dog. I am from Plymouth, a city in South West England.

My passion for translated fiction began in 2016 when I purchased an English copy of Han Kang’s The Vegetarian, a novella originally published in Korean. Excited by my discovery, I purchased books by Japanese authors Haruki Murakami, Takashi Hiraide, Yoko Ogawa and Banana Yoshimoto, after which I decided to read fiction from as many countries as possible.

I have since travelled via books to Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, UK and USA. I read in cafes, restaurants, cars, aeroplanes, trains, parks, gardens, bubble baths, in bed until sunrise shines faintly in the sky, and in my dreams.
